Monthly Sessions

Volunteers are utilized at our monthly sessions to serve as an additional support structure for the boys in our program. These volunteers assist with the monthly sessions by interacting with the boys during the activities as well as during the open-gym sessions.

Camp Team

In addition to the monthly sessions, volunteers are needed to serve as members of our Camp Team. The Camp Team meets on Friday to serve as the orientation, training, and general camp structure and then the camp begins Saturday and ends Sunday afternoon. This team interacts with the boys and serves as “camp counselors” for the weekend. The camp includes team building exercises, small group activities, meals, and a camp fire.

Volunteering

There are several other avenues where individuals can volunteer their time for the betterment of this unique group of young men. If you are interested in any of the volunteer opportunities below, please contact us for further information.

The Board of Directors has three advisory committees which are comprised completely of volunteers.

The Finance Advisory Committee is responsible for the financial governance of the organization. This advisory committee oversees short and long term investments of the foundation and reports on financial irregularities, concerns, or opportunities. Additionally, this group reviews budgets, develops appropriate procedures for budget preparations and ensures consistency between the budget and the organization’s plans.

The Fundraising Advisory Committee focuses on overseeing the organization’s fundraising picture and the fundraising done by the Board. This group oversees the implementation of a fundraising plan approved by the Board. In addition, the advisory committee monitors fundraising efforts to be sure that ethical practices are in place, that donors are adequately recognized, and that fundraising efforts are cost-effective.

The Curriculum Design and Enhancement Advisory Committee is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of the mentoring program, the monthly sessions, and the annual camp. Members of this committee are responsible for creating the plans for these events as well as evaluating the events upon completion in order to better them for the following year.

NOTE: ALL volunteers MUST pass a criminal background check prior to beginning to volunteer for Guys Like Us.
